The grants are managed by a Board of Trustees which has complete discretion regarding the granting of funds and all matters related to eligibility and residence. Grants are specifically designated to cover tuition costs at polytechnics, universities, or other recognised formal training institutions. Applications are restricted to residents of a specific geographical area in the South Island of New Zealand, extending between the Waitaki River in the south to the Pareora River in the north, with western boundaries extending to Lake Benmore and the Otaio Gorge. Applicants must have lived within this geographical area for a continual period of at least two years of their lifetime. Successful applicants are eligible to re-apply for funding on an annual basis and must complete an accountability questionnaire outlining their academic year's progress.
The HOPE Foundation for Research on Ageing Scholarship

Te Rau Puawai
Te Rau Puawai aims to increase professionalism in the Māori mental health workforce. It supports Massey University students who are studying towards a qualification in this field. Te Rau Puawai is one of the most successful academic support programmes in the country. Over the last 20 years it has helped more than 400 health workers into the Māori mental health workforce. The programme is a partnership between Health Workforce NZ and Massey University. It gives bursaries and learning support to students who want to begin or complete a Massey University qualification in the areas of psychology, nursing, rehabilitation, social work, social policy, Māori health, Māori studies, and health science.
Te Aroha Vets Veterinary Grant
The Te Aroha Vets Veterinary Grant supports fourth and fifth year Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences students at Massey University with an interest in mixed animal practice. Te Ara Whakamua Fund- The Path Forward
The Te Ara Whakamua Fund provides financial support to Māori students undertaking placements, internships, professional wānanga, or student hui that contribute to their learning, career development, and cultural growth. It's here to reduce the financial pressure of travel, accommodation, kai, and other costs so you can focus on learning and growth. The fund may be granted to assist with costs directly related to the approved activity, including travel (airfares, petrol, bus fares, etc.), accommodation, kai and daily living costs, registration or participation fees, and equipment or resources essential to participation. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year but must be received at least two weeks prior to the commencement of the placement, internship, or hui.
Taranaki Veterinary Centre Scholarship – Large Animal

These grants aim to support doctoral students who are facing exceptional financial hardship caused by an unforeseen set of circumstances such as illness, job loss, injury, family loss, or natural disaster. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a doctoral degree and making satisfactory progress in their research. Students who are on an extension or have submitted their thesis for examination are not eligible for this grant.
New Zealand Institute of Management Foundation Scholarship
The New Zealand Institute of Management Foundation Scholarship supports postgraduate students studying management and/or leadership programmes who have experience in early to middle management. The New Zealand Institute of Management Foundation was established to provide financial assistance to individuals to undertake courses of study relating to management and leadership, particularly where individuals did not have an opportunity to be supported by their employer for professional development. Funding for this Scholarship has been provided by the Founding Members and Friends of the Foundation, as well as members of NZIM. The scholarship is designed for students who are preferably concurrently employed in a managerial position and desire to move up to senior-management level. Recipients are selected based on academic achievements, professional experience, and future career plans, with preference given to New Zealand citizens. Over time, the recipients will represent a balance of diversity, ethnicity, gender and geography.
New Zealand Equine Research Foundation Massey Scholarship
The New Zealand Equine Research Foundation Massey Scholarship supports fourth-year veterinary science students who want to work mainly in the equine industry. Meat Industry Association Scholarships
The Meat Industry Association Scholarship programme provides a pathway for undergraduate or graduate students into the New Zealand red meat processing industry. Up to 4 new scholarships are available annually, offering a mixture of undergraduate and postgraduate positions. Undergraduate scholarships provide $5,000 per year for up to three years, while postgraduate scholarships offer $10,000 per year for up to two years. Scholars will work part-time or during vacation in the meat industry and receive assistance with obtaining study-related projects and vacation work experience. The programme is designed for New Zealand citizens or permanent residents studying at a tertiary institution who are looking to contribute their skills to the red meat sector beyond the farm gate. Applications are welcome from across a wide range of fields of study relevant to meat processing, marketing or exporting, including food sciences, nutrition, engineering, process design, industrial innovation, environmental science, and international marketing and policy. The scholarship includes valuable additional benefits such as an introduction to the red meat industry networking opportunities and mentoring support. The New Zealand red meat industry is a critical part of the country's economy, the second largest goods exporter with exports over $11 billion, and provides significant career opportunities in a productive, innovative and progressive environment with competitive salaries and strong career pathways.
Massey Ventures Master's Enterprise Bursary
The Massey Ventures Master's Enterprise Bursary is designed to support master's students who are undertaking research with commercialisation potential. The bursary is specifically aimed at students who have previously engaged with the Office of Enterprise, Massey Ventures Ltd. in relation to commercialising their research. Recipients will be enrolled in, or eligible to enrol in a 90 credit or 120 credit research course under a master's degree at Massey University. The bursary provides $15,000 in funding for one year's duration, with three bursaries available. Selection is based on academic achievements, capability as a researcher (as noted by the supervisor), and the commercialisation potential of the intended research.
Massey University Rainbow Postgraduate Scholarship
The Massey University Rainbow Postgraduate Scholarship provides financial support for students enrolled in postgraduate studies at Massey University. The scholarship has a particular focus on students working on rainbow-related research (pertaining to people and communities of minority sexualities, genders, and diverse sex characteristics) or students who demonstrate a passion for and commitment to takatāpui and rainbow inclusion. The scholarship is awarded by the Rainbow New Zealand Charitable Trust with input from the Massey University Rainbow and Takatāpui Advisory Group. Preference is given to students who demonstrate academic achievement, participation in community service or engagement with takatāpui and rainbow community organisations, and a well-proposed rainbow-related research focus that considers intersectionality and inclusion. Recipients can study full-time or part-time at Massey University's Manawatū, Albany, or Wellington campuses, or online.
Massey University Foundation Peer Scholar Award
The Massey University Foundation Peer Scholar Award recognizes twelve outstanding scholarship holders who will serve as ambassadors and leaders of the Scholars Massey community. Recipients will help connect scholarship holders at all levels of study across the university and support other students with their scholarship applications. Peer Scholars receive a specialized development programme including leadership and strengths training, peer support, workshops, seminars, discussion groups, and a two-day retreat. The award provides $6,000 to support recipients in their studies while they commit to helping others succeed and becoming leaders within the Scholars Massey community. The program aims to develop both personal and professional skills through a supportive scholarly community.
Massey University Doctoral Conference Grants
The Massey University Doctoral Conference Grants offer financial support for doctoral students to present their research at conferences in their discipline. The grant should be used at the applicant's discretion to assist with conference registration costs, travel, accommodation, or any other presentation costs incurred. Applications are considered on a rolling basis throughout the year until funds are exhausted, with selection occurring at the start of each month for applications received in the previous month. The value of the award will be determined by the selection panel, up to $1,000 for national conferences and up to $2,000 for international conferences. The program seeks candidates with a new and original contribution who are lead presenters and have the full support of their primary supervisor. Applicants must have successfully completed their confirmation event and have a conference presentation which has been formally accepted, with preference given to students in their second and third year of doctoral study.
Massey Singapore Food Technology PhD Scholarship
The Massey Singapore Food Technology PhD Scholarship is designed for graduates of the Massey University Bachelor of Food Technology degree programme offered in Singapore who are intending to enrol in a PhD with the School of Food Technology and Natural Sciences. Massey University has a long association with higher education in Singapore, initially with Singapore Polytechnic from 2008, and later with the Singapore Institute of Technology from 2016. The scholarship supports doctoral research that contributes to the broad aims of the School of Food Technology and Natural Sciences and to food research in New Zealand. Scholarship holders will benefit from opportunities to work with world class scientists on cutting edge research in the fields of food and nutrition and contribute to the future of New Zealand's agri-food industry. The award provides a total value of $50,000 per annum for three years, covering a monthly stipend, tuition fees, and research funds.
Massey Business School Promising Student Assistance Bursary
The Massey Business School Promising Student Assistance Bursary is designed for students facing financial hardship who are enrolled in the Massey Business School. Established in 2016 and funded by the Massey Business School Development Fund, this bursary supports both undergraduate and postgraduate students who may be hindered from progressing in their studies due to financial circumstances. Eight awards are available annually, with at least five bursaries allocated to students across the five schools within the Business School. Additionally, one bursary each is specifically designated for Māori, Pasifika, and international students. The bursary is open to both full-time and part-time students, including those studying via distance learning. Selection is based on financial need and academic achievements, with good character also being considered. Applicants must submit a personal statement outlining their circumstances and future plans, a letter of support from a referee, and academic transcripts for any study completed outside of Massey University.
The Marcus Kitt Colliers International Bursary
The Marcus Kitt Colliers Bursary is a one-year bursary worth $5,000 designed to support second-year Bachelor of Business (Property) students at Massey University who live in Auckland. This bursary commemorates Marcus Kitt, a long-serving member of Colliers staff and a former student of Massey University, and was established in 2014. It is financed by Colliers New Zealand Limited. The award is intended for students who are enrolled either in internal study mode on the Albany campus or by distance mode but living in Auckland. Recipients must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and enrolled in full-time study. The bursary aims to support students with strong potential to succeed in the property profession. Applicants must demonstrate academic merit based on their Year 1 and Year 2 results, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills. The application requires a reference letter commenting on these skills and the applicant's potential in the property profession, along with a supporting statement outlining career intentions in property and how the award would be utilized.
MBA awards
A limited number of awards are available to help with study towards a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Massey University. The awards consist of three components that can be combined: an Excellence in Scholarship Award worth $2,000 for those with an undergraduate degree with an A- or above average in the highest level courses or equivalent; an Experienced Professional Award worth $2,000 for those with five or more years of relevant full-time work experience; and a Masterful Learning Award worth $2,000 for those with a master's degree recognized by Massey in addition to holding an undergraduate bachelor qualification. Candidates can receive up to $6,000 if they meet all three criteria. Eligibility is determined at the time of admission application into the MBA, with awards offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants are automatically considered for this scholarship when applying for admission into the MBA program.
John Young Memorial Scholarship
The John Young Memorial Scholarship invites applications from students who are immediate family members of Fonterra suppliers in the Taranaki region. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or New Zealand permanent residents who intend to take up a career or be engaged in some occupation or profession relevant to the dairy industry, and will be attending a full-time course at a tertiary institution. The level of individual grants paid is dependent on the numbers of successful applicants and ranges from $2,000 to $5,000. The scholarship is to be used for tuition and books. Students need to be registered for a full-time course at either a university or Institute of Technology by 31 March in the year of the award and satisfactorily complete course work in each year preceding re-application. The scholarships are awarded based on evidence of and/or planned activity to support the New Zealand dairy industry, academic merit, evidence of potential leadership skills and/or service to the community or sporting activities, and academic performance in the previous year of the course for re-application by existing scholars.
John McArthur Geography Research Scholarship
The John McArthur Geography Research Scholarship supports students undertaking research in geography as part of a master's degree at Massey University. The scholarship provides $13,000 for one year to support master's students enrolled in a 60, 90, or 120 credit research course. John McArthur was a geographer who taught at Massey University from 1970 until his retirement in 1997. He died in 2021 and left a bequest to support research at Massey University. The scholarship considers academic merit and the intended research project, with preference given to projects supervised by a geographer.
Hinemoa Hilliard Memorial Scholarship
The Hinemoa Hilliard Memorial Scholarship has been established by Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts in conjunction with Hinemoa's whanau, to remember, recognise and celebrate her influence as an inspirational teacher and writer, and to support strong writing about Māori art and design. This scholarship is awarded to a second-year Māori student enrolled in a programme within the College of Creative Arts at Massey University. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 for one year's duration and is designed to support students who can produce strong writing about Māori art and design. Recipients must have completed one of the required first-year Contextual Studies courses: Communication for Makers (237.130), Conversations in Creative Cultures (237.131), or Ngā Hanga Whakairo (150.106). Selection is based on the strength of writing about Māori art and design, engagement with kaupapa Māori and manaakitanga, and academic achievements.
Hawke's Bay Primary Industries Tertiary Bursary
The Hawke's Bay Primary Industries Tertiary Bursary aims to encourage residents of Hawke's Bay Region to undertake further education or training in primary industry studies. Administered by the Korokipo Branch of Rural Women New Zealand, this bursary is specifically designed for residents of Wairoa, Napier, Hastings or Central Hawkes Bay local authority areas. Bursary recipients will ideally seek employment in the Hawke's Bay area to ensure that the benefits of their learning can be passed on to the Hawke's Bay community and its industries. The grant is to be used for textbooks, course fees, online resources and equipment. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens who are tertiary students studying full-time in the primary industry field. Recipients are required to attend an interview, either in person or online, as part of the selection process.
Gym Access Grant for Ākonga Māori
The Gym Access Grant for Ākonga Māori supports Māori distance students at Massey University who are attending block courses on campus. Offered by Te Rau Tauawhi, this grant provides a one-week membership to the Massey University Recreation Centre on the campus being visited. The grant enables access to gym facilities, fitness classes, and recreation amenities, helping students stay active, reduce stress, and enhance wellbeing during their time on campus. Global Citizen Scholarship
The Global Citizen Scholarship supports Massey University students participating in the Global Citizen programme, which provides short-term opportunities to gain international experience while studying at Massey University. The scholarship is available to students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications who have applied for the Global Citizen programme. Recipients are selected based on academic merit and supporting information provided as part of their Global Citizen programme application. GCSB Women in STEM Scholarship
The GCSB Women in STEM Scholarship supports female tertiary students intending to take a full-time course of study in science, technology, computer engineering, mathematics, data science and cyber security at any New Zealand tertiary institution. The scholarship is valued at $10,000 and is available for up to three years' duration. Four scholarships are available annually. To be eligible, applicants must be students aged over 18 who identify as female, be in their second or subsequent year of full-time tertiary study (including Honours, Masters and PhD students), have enrolled or been accepted into a full-time degree majoring in STEM disciplines at an NZQA accredited tertiary provider in New Zealand, and be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. The STEM disciplines of interest include computer science, cyber security, technology, mathematics, computer engineering, and data science.
Farm Veterinary Matamata Calving Scholarship
The Farm Veterinary Matamata Calving Scholarship provides a hands-on fourth year calving placement for veterinary students passionate about production animal medicine. This two-week placement offers students the opportunity to work with a friendly, supportive team of veterinarians and technicians in the Matamata area, which primarily serves the dairy industry. The scholarship provides $1,500 upon completion of the placement, along with accommodation to minimize living costs. Dr Warren Parker and Pāmu Agricultural Scholarship
The Dr Warren Parker and Pāmu Agricultural Scholarship honours the late Dr. Warren Parker's contributions to New Zealand's agricultural sector. David Brundell Master's Scholarship
The David Brundell Master's Scholarship supports domestic students enrolled in the Master of Horticulture at Massey University who are undertaking research in either flower, fruit, vegetables, or crops for human consumption.
